
Working across the editorial cycle on crime, romance and contemporary fiction novels, I edit manuscripts and proofread final versions before they are sent to print. I provide practical, constructive fixes for any narrative inconsistencies that I discover, while checking copy for style, readability, grammar and spelling.

This role involves proofreading annual reports and consultation documents for delivery to Healthcare Society members. By applying a consistent tone of voice and ensuring clarity and flow, I help to make financial and company information easily digestible for readers.

Collaborating with AI language models, I help to improve translation services for users by describing and defining text styles, rewriting model texts in new styles and assessing AI outputs. This requires constructive problem-solving, a firm grasp of grammar and creative writing skills.

Working closely with project editors and translators, I ensure that English translations retain the tone and style of the original French comics, while localising the text and sound effects for an English-speaking audience. This often requires maintaining consistency over numerous volumes.

I was brought in to provide editorial support to the Senior Medical Editor, editing copy for end clients including AstraZeneca, Moderna and Philips. This meant carrying out quality assurance on complex, customer-facing documents, their medical nature demanding precision of language and the checking of numerous footnotes, abbreviations and technical terms.

Working on books for this children’s imprint has allowed me to develop my skillset to include editing for a young audience, placing greater importance on appropriate word and tone choices. Highlights include editing William Grill’s Shackleton’s Journey, which went on to win the 2015 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.

This prestigious client required proofreading and layout work on quarterly reports intended to update board members and investment partners on portfolio developments. This meant working at speed on sensitive financial material to turn documents around for same-day return.

I was brought in to proofread a range of internal and client copy, including instructional decks, presentations, handouts and emails. This meant applying company terminology consistently and performing quality assurance on client-facing documents for end users including Burberry, Coca Cola, Swarovski and Salesforce.

Having worked on more than 100 graphic novels for this independent publisher, my responsibilities have included: guiding authors and artists through the structuring and development of their script over multiple drafts; checking rough, layout and final artwork; proofreading completed books; writing author biographies and back cover synopses; and giving editorial sign-off ahead of printing. Highlights have included editing the Eisner Award-winning Ruins by Peter Kuper.
